Tonya is currently the Student Learning Support coordinator at Yongsan International School of Seoul in South Korea. This is her 7th year at YISS and she has enjoyed helping the program grow and progress in an effort to support their diverse group of learners. Along with spending time with her family, Tonya’s passions include being a lifelong learner and ensuring that others feel valued and part of their learning community.
Tonya holds her Master’s Degree in Special Education and comes to YISS with a range of experience including public and private school. One thing she enjoyed about teaching in the U.S. was the ability to be involved in the Special Olympics with her students. Tonya’s current role at YISS is focused on supporting students and teachers in all grades, while leading the SLS program.
Tonya is hopeful that the barriers and stigma around students that need support will continue to diminish while a culture of support continues to develop within the schools in South Korea and around the world. As a mother of 3 children, she understands what it means to be a parent advocate and the value of collaboration and teamwork to truly meet the needs of students. Tonya is excited to be part of the SENIA Korea chapter and looks forward to helping support others in the area of educating the whole child and all students who we are privileged to serve
